The combination of ROBA® gateway and ROBA® brake-checker® not only ensures intelligent control and operation of the brakes but also enables efficient and predictive maintenance through sensorless, networked brake monitoring.
There is no compromising on safety. This naturally also applies to applications in robotics and automation. At the sps 2026 in Nuremberg, mayr® power transmission presents highly integrated solutions that create space for smooth processes. Safety brakes such as the ROBA® topstop® series are used for this purpose. The matching ROBA® brake-checker® module enables sensorless brake monitoring. Combined with the ROBA® gateway, the system delivers valuable data for proactive machine maintenance, a digital twin, and smart production environments.
At the round table, the drive specialist from the Allgäu region also presents hollow shaft brakes for applications with high torque and a large space requirement inside the application.
The ROBA® topstop® is equipped with a standardised plug for easy connection and integration into sensorless monitoring systems.
Brakes from the modular ROBA® servostop® series are suitable for a wide variety of installation situations. There is a choice of servo brakes for standard servo motors with hub and toothed rotor, in classic or slim design. The ROBA® servostop® Cobot is the ideal solution for integration into the joints of lightweight robots.
With their extremely slim design and low weight, ROBA® servostop® safety brakes are tailored to the requirements of robotics and easily withstand demanding operating conditions. After the power is switched off or in case of power failure, the brakes ensure reliable and secure holding of the axes in any position.
Engineered to Fit – hollow shaft brakes for special requirements
Torque motors with a large, free inner diameter are used in applications with high torques. Rotational freedom and unobstructed installation space on the inside are decisive factors here. From robotics through observation technology to maritime systems and deep-sea robotics: Such high-performance direct drives solve several design problems and, thanks to their annular construction, are what make certain designs possible in the first place. One challenge is finding safety brakes that fit the same annular geometry. mayr® power transmission develops electromagnetic hollow shaft brakes as customer-specific solutions for precisely this requirement. These brakes can be seen at the sps (hall 4, booth 278) and can be discussed with the experts on site at the round table, so to speak.
Smart Monitoring. Connected Data.
With the ROBA® brake-checker®, mayr® offers a module that monitors the safety brakes without the need for additional sensors. It recognizes the brake’s condition based on current and voltage trends, enabling proactive maintenance. Critical parameters – such as switching time, coil temperature, and functional reserves – are reliably detected. The additional ROBA® gateway module renders the solution network-compatible so that the collected data can be integrated into existing remote maintenance systems or digital twins can be created, for example, thus ensuring smart production and more transparency in the drive line.
Hollow shaft brakes fit perfectly into the geometry of high-torque torque motors, which are used as direct drives for applications with a large, free inner diameter. mayr® offers customer-specific brake solutions with this design.
Validated Safetey – Validation tool simplifies dimensioning
Besides the technology, mayr® also offers support during engineering: a specially developed validation tool with the safety characteristic value B10d makes dimensioning according to DIN EN ISO 13849-1 easier. This is a user guide or checklist that provides bundled and structured information on the brake, in accordance with the standard, regarding fundamental and well-tried safety principles, well-tried components, fault lists, etc. according to DIN EN ISO 13849-2. This allows design engineers to easily and reliably check whether the brakes may be considered well-tried components within the meaning of the standard for the respective application or — and this is an important point for safety — whether they may not. The fact that the ROBA® topstop® has been deemed a “well-tried component” as per category 1 by TÜV (German Technical Inspectorate) is particularly helpful.
