SUEZ to Upgrade Kochi’s Water Supply Network
In partnership with Kerala Water Authority, SUEZ will modernize water services for 700,000 residents using advanced monitoring and leak reduction technologies.

The State Government owned Kerala Water Authority (KWA), responsible for the development and regulation of water supply and wastewater management in the southern Indian state of Kerala, awarded SUEZ the contract for Kochi City water supply system upgrade, operations and maintenance, under its Kerala Urban Water Services Improvement Programme (KUWSIP). This performance-based contract is jointly financed by the Asian Development Bank and the Government of Kerala for the water distribution network upgradation which includes the operation and maintenance for 10 years.
SUEZ will support the Kerala Water Authority to optimize water production and distribution services in Kochi City to enhance water availability and water quality, for nearly 700,000 people. Covering approximately 95 sq. km. within the Kochi Municipal Corporation, the contract includes 146,500 service connections to increase access to water, the replacement of dilapidated water distribution network to achieve 24hx7d pressurised water supply and reduce Non-Revenue Water losses to 20% to comply with national service level benchmarks.
The reduction in water loss will contribute to sustainable water resource management, ensuring long-term resilience of Kochi’s water supply infrastructure while aligning with India’s larger environmental and sustainability goals.
SUEZ will deploy modern technologies such as remote water meter-reading for industrial and commercial consumers, real-time operational performance monitoring system (RoPES) developed by SUEZ, and system monitoring and control via SCADA to increase operational efficiency and resilience. Under this contract, SUEZ will undertake routine operations of the water supply system, preventive and reactive maintenance, active leak detection and repair, and complaint management services, while Kerala Water Authority will continue to manage meter reading, billing, and revenue collection.
