Nexxiot and Sujan Industries Partner to Digitise India’s Rail Freight

Nexxiot AG, a global leader in smart transportation technology, has officially entered the Indian market through a strategic partnership with Sujan Industries, one of India’s most established rail and industrial manufacturing groups.

Together, Nexxiot and Sujan Industries are advancing the digital transformation of India’s rail freight ecosystem, bringing connected intelligence to rolling stock and enabling operators to turn data into insight and movement into measurable value. As part of this collaboration, Nexxiot has launched a joint initiative with Jindal Steel & Power Limited (JSPL) to introduce smart, connected railcars that deliver real-time visibility and smarter asset management. Through this partnership, Nexxiot is empowering India’s freight sector with technology-driven efficiency, safety, and sustainability, shaping the future of connected rail logistics across the region.

Sujan entered into a subscription-based engagement with GATX India Private Limited (GIPL). The engagement with GIPL represents a strategic milestone in Sujan’s decision to build a fleet of digital railcars in one of the world’s most dynamic and fast-growing rail markets.

Advancing Connectivity and Performance in Rail Freight
India operates one of the world’s largest rail networks, carrying over 1.5 billion tonnes of freight annually. Yet, digital connectivity and asset visibility across this vast system remain at an early stage. Nexxiot’s entry into the market, in partnership with Sujan Industries, represents a decisive move towards closing that technology gap and delivering actionable intelligence directly to wagon keepers and operators.

The collaboration focuses on deploying connected railcars equipped with Nexxiot’s Globehopper 3 devices, advanced sensors that monitor movement, location, and impact in real time. The data gathered supports predictive maintenance, improves operational efficiency and cost effectiveness.

Initial projects include joint programs with GATX India and Jindal Steel & Power Limited (JSPL). The first 215 devices at JSPL were already installed, 360 devices at GATX will be deployed immediately, followed by an additional rollout to reach 1,100 devices by 2026. These deployments are backed by Indian TEC, IECEx and ATEX Zone 1 certification and extensive testing to ensure compliance with Indian rail standards.

Combining Global Technology with Local Expertise
“India’s rail market is on a remarkable growth trajectory, and this partnership represents a natural extension of Nexxiot’s global mission. Working alongside Sujan Industries allows us to combine proven technology with local expertise, enabling a smarter, safer, and more sustainable foundation for the region’s freight operations," said Maximilian Eichhorn, Chief Executive Officer, Nexxiot.

The partnership builds on 18 months of joint development, certification, and logistics planning, aligning Swiss precision engineering with India’s strong manufacturing base. This integration allows for faster local adaptation of Nexxiot’s hardware and ensures scalability to meet the needs of regional and national operators.

Setting a New Standard for Connected Freight
With the introduction of digital monitoring and connected railcars, operators in India will gain access to continuous visibility over asset condition and utilization, an essential step towards predictive fleet management. These insights enable data-driven decisions that reduce downtime, improve safety margins, and support more sustainable logistics.

For GATX India, one of the country’s key freight wagon lessors, this collaboration demonstrates how global rail leasing models can integrate advanced technology to achieve measurable performance benefits.

With the installation of Nexxiot’s cutting-edge GH3 telematic gateways on its wagons, JSPL achieves end-to-end visibility in the logistics of raw materials and finished goods, enhancing efficiency and supply chain transparency. This initiative also supports India’s broader infrastructure modernisation goals, aligning with national programs that prioritise smart logistics, reduced emissions, and greater network efficiency.

Nexxiot’s Global Perspective
Nexxiot’s entry into India strengthens its position as a key enabler of data-driven transformation across global supply chains. The company’s portfolio of connected devices and digital platforms provides end-to-end visibility across rail, maritime, and intermodal transport, enabling asset owners to optimise operations while meeting sustainability targets.

As the logistics industry faces increasing pressure to deliver efficiency, transparency, and decarbonization, Nexxiot’s partnership with Sujan Industries demonstrates how cross-border collaboration can produce tangible progress, merging international innovation with local capability to achieve long-term, measurable impact.
