For industrial machinery in sectors such as intralogistics, packaging, plastics, textiles, cable and wire, ABB India has introduced the ACS380-E, a new variable speed machinery drive engineered for automation-centric machine building. The drive is designed to simplify system integration, accelerate commissioning and ensure long-term readiness for digitalized, Industry 4.0 production environments.
Built for Digitalized Machine Manufacturing
The ACS380-E is designed for fast deployment in smart factory environments where machine builders require flexible connectivity, compact integration and high system availability. As part of ABB’s all-compatible drive portfolio, it supports digital commissioning workflows while enabling consistent performance across diverse industrial platforms.
Embedded Connectivity and Cybersecure Design
The drive features dual embedded Ethernet ports with selectable communication protocols as standard, eliminating the need for external communication modules and reducing wiring and installation effort. USB-C commissioning and Ethernet-based firmware access further simplify setup and ensure continuous cybersecurity updates throughout the drive’s operational life. The system is engineered to meet present and future industrial cybersecurity requirements.
Multi-Motor Compatibility and Compact Integration
The ACS380-E supports all common rotary motor types across a global voltage range from 100 to 600 V. It delivers precise motor control for applications such as conveyor systems, packaging machines, extrusion lines and multi-axis machinery. With power ratings up to 22 kW at 400 V for the Indian market, the compact mechanical design allows installation in confined cabinet spaces with flexible mounting options.
Seamless Automation System Integration
The drive is designed for direct integration with all major automation platforms, including ABB’s AC500 PLC, as well as third-party control systems. This open compatibility reduces system engineering effort and allows machine builders to deploy standardized drive platforms across multiple machine families.
Lifecycle Management via Drive Composer Software
Operation, diagnostics and adaptive programming are supported via ABB’s Drive Composer software, including compatibility with Drive Composer 3. The software enables fast offline configuration, simplified commissioning, condition monitoring and structured equipment management across the machine lifecycle.
Differentiation Through Standardized Connectivity and Future-Proof Compliance
Unlike conventional machinery drives that rely on optional communication add-ons and manual commissioning, the ACS380-E integrates cybersecurity-ready Ethernet communication, universal motor compatibility and digital commissioning tools as standard. This combination reduces system complexity, shortens time to market and strengthens long-term compliance with evolving industrial regulations.
The ACS380-E machinery drive was launched in India at ENGIMACH 2025 in Gandhinagar, held from December 3 to December 7, 2025, and is available locally in ratings up to 22 kW at 400 V.
