Metso Expands Pellet Plant Capabilities in India
Metso has secured a contract with Greta Energy Limited for a traveling grate pelletizing plant in Chandrapur, Maharashtra. This installation marks the second Compact-sized Pellet Plant Metso has delivered in India, following a similar project announced in November 2025. The plant is engineered to produce 1.2 million tons per annum (MTPA) of iron ore pellets, combining compact design with high operational efficiency.
Technical Features and Delivery Scope
The Chandrapur plant is based on a 3-meter-wide indurating machine, including comprehensive engineering, proprietary equipment, instrumentation, and control systems. Metso’s Compact-sized Pellet Plants are designed to meet the specific requirements of emerging steel producers, offering scalable solutions without compromising on pellet quality or production reliability.
Advantages for Smaller-Scale Operations
Compared with conventional large-scale pellet plants, Metso’s compact solution allows faster deployment and lower investment while maintaining performance standards. The plant provides flexibility for steel producers in diverse regions, supporting India’s expanding steelmaking needs and contributing to more efficient, localized production.
Proven Track Record and Market Expansion
Since introducing Compact-sized Pellet Plants in 2022, Metso has completed three projects in China and two in India. The technology has been optimized for emerging markets, combining compact footprint with robust process capabilities, enabling steel producers to adopt high-performance pellet production even at smaller scales.
