Expansion of local alloy production
Alleima has expanded its manufacturing capabilities in India by starting local production of two stainless-steel grades, SAF™ 2906 and SAF™ 3006, at its plant in Mehsana. The move increases regional availability of high-performance alloys for applications where corrosion resistance and mechanical strength are critical to operational reliability.

The two grades are produced to address different process conditions. SAF™ 2906 is intended for urea production environments, where exposure to aggressive media places high demands on material integrity. SAF™ 3006 is a super duplex stainless steel designed for broader use across chemical, petrochemical, refinery, and marine installations.

Material performance and engineering relevance
Both grades are developed for service in harsh operating conditions, where conventional stainless steels may be limited by corrosion or mechanical fatigue. Their material properties support longer component lifetimes and reduced maintenance frequency, which is particularly relevant for pressure equipment, heat exchangers, and tubing systems operating continuously.

By enabling thinner wall designs while maintaining mechanical strength, the grades can support more material-efficient component designs and lower lifecycle operating costs in demanding industrial processes.

Mehsana plant capabilities and investments
Alleima has maintained a presence in India since 1983 and invested approximately 180 MSEK in the Mehsana site between 2019 and 2023. These investments added heat-exchanger and tubing production lines, along with expanded testing and quality-assurance capabilities.

The facility now functions as a regional manufacturing hub, supporting applications that require tight dimensional tolerances, consistent metallurgy, and traceable production quality.

Industrial and policy context
Local production of SAF™ 2906 and SAF™ 3006 aligns with India’s industrial development initiatives, including “Make in India” and “Atmanirbhar Bharat,” by reducing reliance on imported high-performance materials. For customers, regional manufacturing shortens supply chains and improves availability for projects linked to energy transition, fertiliser production, and process industry upgrades.

Application outlook
In urea plants, chemical processing units, refineries, and marine systems, material selection directly affects uptime, safety, and compliance. By expanding domestic access to corrosion-resistant super duplex grades, the Mehsana facility supports more predictable project execution and long-term operational performance in these sectors.
