Global Digital Hub Expansion in India

BASF plans to open a new global Digital Hub in Hyderabad in the first quarter of 2026, expanding its international digital service network and consolidating digital capabilities to support global business operations more efficiently.

Role of Digital Hubs in BASF’s digital setup
BASF’s Digital Hubs function as centralized centres of digital expertise that deliver standardized services at scale to business units worldwide. The new hub in Hyderabad will complement existing Digital Hubs in Ludwigshafen, Madrid and Kuala Lumpur, forming a distributed global network designed to support consistent service delivery across regions.

From a technical and organizational perspective, the Digital Hub model is intended to reduce fragmentation in IT and digital services by centralizing development, operations, and support functions. This approach enables reuse of digital solutions, common platforms, and harmonized processes across BASF’s businesses, which is particularly relevant in managing a complex digital supply chain spanning manufacturing, research, and commercial activities.

Consolidation and cost-efficient service delivery
The Hyderabad Digital Hub is positioned as a cost-efficient location that allows BASF to consolidate digital capabilities while maintaining global reach. By concentrating expertise in fewer locations, BASF aims to enable faster service delivery and leaner operational structures within its Global Digital Services division.

In parallel, BASF plans to further standardize its digital portfolio and focus on applications and platforms that generate the highest value for its core businesses. This portfolio rationalization is intended to reduce system complexity, lower operating costs, and improve scalability of digital services, particularly in enterprise-wide functions such as finance, supply chain, and production support.

Structural changes within Global Digital Services
The expansion of the Digital Hub network is accompanied by structural changes within Global Digital Services. BASF has stated that the division aims to significantly reduce its global workforce by 2030, including positions in Ludwigshafen, and to reduce the number of sites where digital specialists are located.

These measures are designed to align organizational structure with a more centralized digital operating model. BASF has indicated that all changes will be implemented in a socially responsible manner and in compliance with existing co-determination frameworks.

Establishment of the Hyderabad hub
Preparations for the Hyderabad Digital Hub are already underway. Hiring and operational activities will be conducted under a new Indian legal entity, BASF Digital Solutions Private Limited. The hub will become part of BASF’s established presence in India, which already includes manufacturing and research and development activities.

By integrating the Hyderabad hub into its global digital network, BASF aims to improve speed, efficiency, and consistency in digital service delivery, while supporting long-term optimization of its global digital and automotive data ecosystem–related capabilities across regions.
