Tata Power partnered with Vivanta Aluva, Kochi, to implement a 120 kW Direct Current (DC) fast-charging station for electric vehicles in the hospitality sector. The installation provides high-capacity charging capabilities to support regional and intercity transit across key transport corridors in Kerala.
Operational Challenge and Strategic Alignment
Increasing adoption of battery electric vehicles requires high-throughput charging systems to minimize vehicle downtime during transit. Long-distance travel relies heavily on accessible high-power infrastructure located at strategic intermediate stops.
To address this demand, the collaboration combines Tata Power's energy infrastructure engineering with the commercial site availability of Vivanta Aluva. Deploying high-output equipment at established lodging facilities allows commercial operators and private transit users to utilize dwelling periods for rapid power transfer.
Technical Architecture and Operational Integration
The installed system utilizes a 120 kW DC fast-charging unit configured with a dual-gun dispensing interface and dedicated dual-parking bays.
- Power Delivery: The dual-gun configuration supports simultaneous charging for two electric vehicles, dynamically managing load requirements to optimize power throughput per vehicle.
- Software Integration: The hardware interfaces directly with the central Tata Power EZ Charge digital management platform.
- Operational Control: The system integrates automated session initiation protocols, allowing compatible vehicles to authenticate and commence energy delivery automatically upon connection.
- Route Planning Integration: The charging node communicates real-time availability and operating parameters to the network's route-planning software for navigation and load-balancing support.
Deployment and Transit Connectivity
The hardware is installed on-site at Vivanta Aluva to capture traffic moving along key transport routes between Kochi, Thrissur, and surrounding regional centers. Tata Power manages the ongoing hardware operation, network connectivity, and energy delivery protocols, while Vivanta provides the physical grid access point and dedicated vehicle bays.
The installation adds high-power charging capacity to commercial transit routes, reducing turnaround times for long-range trips and stabilizing corridor-level charging availability for multi-vehicle transit networks.
